Nakhon Ratchasima is a large province with a population of about 2.7 million, situated northeast and around 259 kilometres from Bangkok. This is a province rich in history and culture and should be high up on your list of places to visit when in Thailand.
There certainly is a lot to see and do for the whole family.
1. Explore the Phimai Historical Park
The Phimai Historical Park is situated in Phimai, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, and is home to the Ancient Khmer Temple in Thailand. The ruins found on this site date back to the 11th and late 12th centuries. Even though the Khmer at the time were Hindu, the temple was built as a Buddhist temple.
2. Visit Temples in Korat
Temples are seen all over Asia, and Korat has no shortage of beautiful, very interesting temples. Make a point of visiting some of them. Access to these temples is very easy from the city centre by bus, taxi, or tuk-tuk.
3. Shop at Save One Night Market
This is a huge market with many stalls where you can shop till you drop and enjoy Thai food. This market is easily accessible by tuk-tuk.
4. Explore Maha Viravong National Museum
This museum is located behind the public library in the city centre. It is a small museum rich in Thai history and has very interesting art effects from a bygone era.
5. Visit the Nakhon Ratchasima Zoo (Korat Zoo)
This zoo is situated in Muang District, and you can get a bus from Korat to the zoo. The zoo is one of the best zoos in Asia and a great place to spend a relaxing day with the whole family.
6. Lagoon and Fantasia Water Park
Visiting the zoo and spending time at the lagoon and water park is an excellent activity for the whole family. It is the largest park of its kind in the northeastern region and forms part of the zoo.
7. Visit Khao Yai National Park
This park is located in Nakhon Ratchasima Province. The park boasts more than 300 bird species, including elephants, otters, deer, bears, gibbons, etc.
8. Shop at one of a few large shopping malls.
9. Enjoy fine dining at one of many restaurants in and around the city.
