This type of facing is used to finish the neckline and armholes of sleeveless garments.
Cut the garment and facing pieces out. Apply interfacing to the wrong side of the front and back facing pieces. Neaten the raw edges with overlocking. Pin and stitch the shoulders of the front and back facing pieces, right sides together. Press the seams open.
Neaten the raw edges of the garment. Pin and stitch the garment’s shoulders, right sides together. Press the seams open. Pin the facing to the garment’s neckline, right sides together, and stitch it in place. Trim, grade, and clip the seam allowances. Press the seam allowances towards the facing.
Understitch the neckline facing to the seam allowances, close to the seamline.
Pin and stitch the facing around the armholes of the garment, right sides together. Trim, grade, and clip the seam allowances. Press the seam allowances towards the facing.
Understitch the armhole facing, close to the seamline. Push the garment’s back panels through the shoulders and pull them out at the front.
Pin and stitch the facing and the garment’s side seams, right sides together. Press the seams open. Whipstitch the facing side seam edges to the garment’s side seam allowances. Press.
