How To Sew Jeans Front Hip Pockets

Requirements

Polycotton fabric for the pocket lining

Denim/Jeans machine needles

Topstitching thread

Constructing the pocket

Cut the pocket sections out.  Fold the pocket lining, right sides together on the foldline, and press.  Neaten the curved edge of the hip panel with overlocking.

 

Pin the wrong side of the hip panel to the right side of the pocket lining.  Machine stitch the curved edge of the hip panel in place.  Attach a coin pocket to the hip panel if one is desired.

 

Pin and stitch the pocket lining to the pocket opening of the garment, right sides together, and press.

 

Trim, grade, and clip or notch the seam allowance.

 

Fold the pocket lining to the wrong side of the garment and tack it to the pocket opening.  Press.

 

Topstitch around the pocket opening.

 

Fold the lining side seams, right sides together, and pin and stitch the bottom edge of the pocket.  Neaten the bottom edge with overlocking.

 

Pin the pocket to the side seam and waistline of the garment and baste in place.
