Hello, everyone!
Redecorating is one of my favourite things to do when time allows me to do so. I decided to revamp my bedroom with new scatter cushions and a new bed runner. Bed runners come in different widths and lengths, as well as in a variety of fabrics. It is best to launder fabrics that are likely to shrink. To calculate the amount of fabric and batting needed for the runner, measure the width of the bed as well as the drop on the side of the bed. I used Taffeta for the top section and crushed Taffeta for the side borders. Batting comes in different lofts (thickness). I used 1 cm (3/8 in) thick batting for this particular project.

Requirements:
The fabric of choice plus fabric or lining for the back section
Contrast fabric, if desired for borders
Batting
Matching sewing thread

Sewing Instructions:
Cut the fabric to the required length and width for the runner. Cut a back section and border strips. With the right sides together, pin and sew the contrast border strips to the runner. Neaten the raw edges with overlocking or a zigzag stitch. Press the seam allowance to one side.

Pin the back and top sections of the runner’s right sides together. Sew the sides and top seams, leaving the bottom seams open.

Cut the batting to the same length as the runner. Pin the batting on the wrong side of the top section of the runner. Stitch the two sides and top seams together.

Stitch the two bottom seams right sides together and leave an opening of about 20 cm (8 in). Trim the corners.

Sew the opening closed with hand stitching. Rule lines with tailor’s chalk on the top section of the runner and machine stitch. Lightly press the runner without steam.

The cushion tutorial will be posted tomorrow.
Have a great day!
