A visit to Bangkok (Thailand) 2017

We visited Bangkok for the first time in January 2017. Bangkok is an exciting city known for its shrines and vibrant street life. There are so many sightseeing options, as well as many shopping venues to choose from. We took a 4-hour Tuk-Tuk ride around the city, which gave us a great introduction to the culture and city life. It was great fun and I highly recommend it.

We also took the SkyTrain to the Chatuchak Weekend Market, which is both an indoor and outdoor market on about 35 acres of land. There are more than 10,000 shops and stalls selling clothes, shoes, handicrafts, and household goods, as well as many other varieties of goods.

Traveling by Skytrain is a breeze and very convenient there.

Bangkok has many multi-story shopping malls and is a paradise for all shopaholics. The malls have endless bargains, from high-end fashion clothing, shoes, and handbags to electronics, etc.
We spent most days walking from mall to mall to see what was on offer. I also discovered many fabric shops in China Town with a fantastic range of good-quality fabrics.

We also took a day trip to the beautiful province of Kanchanaburi, which is about a 3-hour drive from Bangkok. Here we visited the World War II Cemetery and the Railway Museum. The history of that period, as explained by our tour guide, was fascinating as well as very somber.

We then boarded a train for a ride on ”THE BRIDGE OVER RIVER KWAI”. The train ride took us on the actual ”DEATH RAILWAY” and on the ”HELLFIRE PASS,”  which was built by PRISONERS OF WAR. The scenery from the train was breathtaking.

After the short train ride, we were taken to a restaurant on the river, where we were served a delicious THAI LUNCH.  After lunch, we were taken by powerboat to the Elephant Sanctuary. The elephants were all treated well, and the visit there was amazing.

We ended the day trip with a visit to the SAI YOK NATIONAL PARK.

Our visit to Bangkok was truly memorable, and we vowed to go back whenever we could.
