I drafted this pattern for a bust size of 92 cm (36 in) and used Cotton Lycra for this project.\u00a0 The pattern and printing instructions can be downloaded here.<\/a>\u00a0 It might be a good idea to read the blog post on cutting and sewing stretch fabrics.<\/a><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

You will need about 1 m\u00a0<\/strong>(1 yd) of prewashed stretch knit fabric, \u00bc m (10 in) of contrasting stretch fabric for the sleeve cuffs and neckband, and clear elastic to reinforce the shoulder seams.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Cut the garment pieces out with a rotary cutter or sharp scissors.\u00a0 Staystitch the V-neck with a stretch or ballpoint needle for about 14 cm (5 \u00bd in) on either side of the V, using a 1 cm (\u215c in) seam allowance.\u00a0 Clip into the V.<\/p>\n

Cut a length of 6 mm (\u00bc in) wide clear elastic and secure it on the back shoulder seamline.\u00a0 Overlock the shoulder seam or use a zigzag stitch to secure the elastic to the shoulder seamlines.\u00a0 Press the seams towards the back bodice.\u00a0 You can read more about reinforcing shoulder seams of knit garments here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Fold the neckband right sides together and machine stitch along the V, using a 1 cm seam allowance.\u00a0 Keep the needle down when you reach the point of the V, turn, and stitch the other side of the V.\u00a0 Clip into the V and trim the seam allowance to 6 mm (\u00bc in).<\/p>\n

Press the seam allowance open.\u00a0 Fold the neckband in half lengthwise, wrong sides together, and press.\u00a0 Mark the centre front and centre back of the neckband.<\/p>\n

Pin the neckband to the neckline, starting at the centre front and aligning the clipped V with the mark on the neckband.\u00a0 Next, pin the neckband to the marked centre back neck, then pin it to the rest of the neckline while stretching the neckband slightly.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Machine stitch the neckband to the neckline with the clipped side up while stretching the neckband slightly.\u00a0 Keep the needle down when you reach the clipped corner, turn, and continue sewing the other side of the V.\u00a0 Neaten the seam allowance with overlocking.\u00a0 Press the seam allowance down.\u00a0 Topstitch the neckline if desired.<\/p>\n

Spread the front and back of the garment out.\u00a0 Mark the centre of the sleeve head and pin it to the shoulder seamline.\u00a0 Pin the rest of the sleeves into the armhole, matching the notches.\u00a0 Machine stitch it with a narrow zigzag stitch (1-1\u00bd wide x 2-2\u00bd long), or use a machine stretch stitch or the overlocker.\u00a0 Repeat for the other sleeve.\u00a0 Press the seams towards the sleeves.\u00a0 Pin the side seams, right sides together.\u00a0 Start sewing the side seams from the bottom hemline towards the edge of the sleeve, using a zigzag stitch or the overlocker.\u00a0 Press the side seams towards the back.<\/p>\n

Pin and stitch the cuff ends right sides together, and press.\u00a0 Fold the cuffs in half with the wrong sides together, and press.\u00a0 Pin the cuffs to the sleeves and stitch them in place with the sewing machine or the overlocker.\u00a0 Press.<\/p>\n

Turn the hem up and hand-baste or pin it in place.\u00a0 Stitch the hem with a twin stretch needle.\u00a0 Press the garment.<\/p>\n
