A Visit To Chiang Mai (Northern Thailand)

Our week long holiday in Chiang Mai has just ended. This city was founded in 1296 and is a place rich in culture and history. Chiang Mai is located in the mountainous region of Northern Thailand. There is a strong presence of American and European people living and working here. We decided to try airbnb for the first time and decided to stay in the Nimman area. Upon our arrival in Chiang Mai, we were pleasantly surprised to see the beautiful new apartment blocks, complete with swimming pools, gymnasiums and rooftop gardens. The apartments we booked in Chiang Mai and Bangkok were both beautiful, modern, well decorated and well equiped. They also have 24 hour security. We are now hooked on airbnb and will probably always make use of it. Chiang Mai is a beautiful laid back city and is certainly a good place to unwind. Our apartment block was within walking distance of two shopping malls in the area.

The beautiful upmarket Maya Lifestyle Shopping Centre with high street shopping brands, international restaurants and cinemas.

The other mall is KAD SUAN KAEW where you can find lots of local clothing brands, gifts, supermarket, lovely food courts and restaurants. Getting around the town was a breeze with their local taxis.

We did some temple hopping in the section called the ''Old City''. Below are a few temples(wats), we visited in the ''Old City'' of Chiang Ma

Wat Chedi Luang

Wat Phan Tao was founded in the 14th century and is constructed from teak.

The grounds are full of statues and impressive buildings.

We also made several trips to the local Warorot Market and other craft markets that sell beautiful handicrafts, souvenirs and accessories.

There are also night markets throughout the week and weekend walking street markets, which sell food as well as crafts and all touristy goodies.

We have just arrived in Bangkok and will be exploring this region further for the next two weeks. Have a great week further.
